Value engineering or Value Analysis is a systematic method to improve the “value” of goods or products and services by using an examination of delivered functions. Value, as defined, is the ratio between delivered functions and cost. So Value can, therefore, be increased by either improving delivered functions or reducing associated costs.

Value proposition techniques are related to the same theme.

Value proposition techniques analyze the value of goods, products, processes or services aiming to increase the value of the goods through differentiation strategies.
In an open market, typically actions provided to increase the value of target goods are recurring and often conditioned by the market inertia, causing an increasing level of competitiveness among market players during the time. Starting from an analytic approach of the value of target good, value proposition techniques aim to overcome individual mental inertia of experts and they support intuitive abilities to recognize possible alternative and uncovered ways to increase the value of target good, achieving new unveiled markets.
