WIPO has published statistics for 2023 regarding IP titles at an international level.
Regarding international PCT patent applications, for the first time in 14 years, there was a slight decrease in the number of filings of international PCT applications, 272,600 compared to over 277 thousand in 2022.
Similarly, applications for international trademarks also show a reduction of 7% compared to 2022.
Otherwise, industrial design applications at an international level still see growth, albeit a limited 1%.
The reasons for these contractions seem to be found in the increase in inflation rates and in the context of global economic uncertainty.
Regarding patents, Huawei (China), Samsung (Korea) and Qualcomm (US) are the top three holders of international applications filed in 2023.
