On 6 February, WIPO published the new report on technology trends ‘The future of Transportation’.
In the study, patent information related to 1,1 million of patent families related to the transportation topic and published between 2000 and 2023 are integrated with scientific articles and insights coming from interviews with experts and futurists, with the aim to highlight changes which are emerging in the sector, factors which push new innovations and current trends and emerging technologies.
The report is structured around four principal transportation modalities: Land, Sea, Air, and Space and intersects two current mega trends: Sustainability, interpreted in Sustainable Propulsion and Automation and Circularity, and Digitalization, interpreted as Communication and Security, and Human–Machine Interface (HMI).
In addition to the investigation of patent families, the report explores also trademarks and industrial designs referred to the sector.
The report aims to provide a quantitative overview on the future technologies of transportation, that appear smarter, greener, more connected and more inclusive.
